This Surprise Proposal at Zion National Park was so special! I traveled to Zion National Park with Amber Garrett and Alyssa and Paul booked a Zion session with us. Weeks before the session, Alyssa let us know that they were expecting and she wanted to incorporate the ultrasound into the session. Then, a couple of weeks after that, Paul reached out to let us know he wanted to PROPOSE during the session. It was so exciting to plan this really special session for Alyssa and Paul in Zion!
Surprise Proposal in Zion National Park
On the day of the session, we started at a lower point in Zion with amazing views. Next, we drove to a second location for the big proposal moment. We prompted Alyssa and Paul to face opposite directions. On the count of 3, they were told to “run to each other like you haven’t seen each other in months” (this is always a fun prompt!). When Alyssa turned around, Paul was on one knee. She was SUPER SUPRISED and it was such a sweet moment! Evidently, she said YES!
After Paul proposed, we took some portraits to celebrate their “just engaged moment”. Then we headed to our final location to set up the cutest picnic for the newly engaged couple. They popped sparkling cider and we took more portraits! Alyssa and Paul were such an incredible and loving couple to work with in Zion National Park! I’m so excited for these two as they prepare to welcome a baby into the world and continue building their life together!
How to Plan a Zion Proposal
If you’re planning to propose in Zion National Park, here are a few things to consider:
- Where do you want to propose? Do you have a location in Zion in mind or do you need some ideas? Is this location super popular with people or is it more private?
- What time of day do you want to propose? As a photographer, I’d likely encourage you to propose early in the morning or later in the day near sunset time. Where you choose to propose really impacts the time of day due to lighting. Weekdays are typically quieter than weekends as well.
- If you’re hiring a photographer, do you want to play it off as a couples session like Alyssa and Paul and propose sometime during the session? Or do you want it to be a total surprise and have a photographer hidden? I’ve photographed proposals during a session and have also discreetly photographed proposals too. It’s up to you and what you think will work best!
