5 Wedding + Elopement Attire Mistakes

Let’s talk about 5 Wedding + Elopement Attire Mistakes (and how you can avoid them!)

You’ve spent weeks or months planning your wedding or elopement—every detail down to the florals and playlist. But when it comes to attire, sometimes it’s easy to miss some important details. As a Las Vegas wedding photographer, I have seen a few mishaps along the way and I wanted to share my insights as you plan your big day!

Here are five of the most common outfit overlooks I see (and how to dodge them like a pro):

1. Choosing a Veil That’s Brighter Than Your Dress
It’s subtle, but trust me—it shows in photos. If your gown is ivory or champagne-toned, a stark white veil can clash in a way that’s hard to unsee. The fix? Bring a swatch of your dress when veil shopping or ask your stylist to help you color match. A cohesive look will feel polished and intentional in every photo.

2. Not Breaking In Your Shoes
Listen, I get it. You found the perfect pair of heels (or dress shoes) and can’t wait to rock them. But if you don’t break them in ahead of time, you might spend your reception with achy feet. And I want you to be able to PARTY all night long!!!
PS: This goes for everyone, not just brides! Your future self will thank you for testing them out around the house and bringing a cute pair of tennis shoes for dancing. You could even bedazzle them, like this.

3. Forgetting to Cut Tuxedo Strings
This one always makes me smile when editing galleries: those little X-shaped stitches on the back of tux jackets? They’re meant to be cut! They hold the flaps together during shipping, but once it’s time to wear the tux, snip them. Same goes for the brand label on the sleeve—off it goes.

4. Skipping Kiss-Proof Lipstick
Wedding days involve lots of kissing—first looks, golden hour, ceremony smooches. A super-transferable lipstick might look amazing in the mirror but could leave a mark on your partner (or your teeth). Go for a kiss-proof formula or stain that stays put and test it out before the big day. Wondering what Taylor Swift wore that never moves? It’s Pat McGrath!

5. Leaving Out Personality
Your wedding attire is the perfect place to add meaningful, playful touches—embroidered details, custom jewelry, a bold tie, funky socks, heirloom pieces, or even statement boots. These little things tell your story and make your outfit you.

At the end of the day, your wedding look should make you feel confident, comfortable, and completely yourself. Let the details shine—you’ve earned this moment. And as a Las Vegas wedding photographer, I’d be so honored to help you every step of the way!
