This Ireland Vow Renewal at Slieve League was the best of both worlds- it featured my best friend and her husband in a dream location. Amber is my photographer BFF and travel buddy, who got married to her husband last September.
Amber and John asked themselves a question that every couple does after getting engaged, “Do we have a wedding or elope?” They loved the idea of an Ireland elopement, but couldn’t imagine not spending their wedding day with their family and friends, so they compromised and did both!
Fast forward to 2022, Amber and I planned a trip in March to Ireland with our husbands. She asked me if I would do the honor of photographing their vow renewal in Ireland. Obviously, I said YES!
First, Amber and John got ready in their adorable Airbnb together. Then we headed up to Slieve League. We were concerned it would rain because the forecast was showing 100% chances, but we lucked out. Towards the end of their session, it started drizzling, but it wouldn’t feel like a true Ireland experience without some rain. Though it didn’t rain, it was windy! There is definitely such a thing as too much wind, but in this case, the wind was PERFECT. As you can tell from Amber’s amazing wind-blown hair and dress photos.
After taking some gorgeous portraits, Amber and John read their vows to each other again with the coastal views of the sea behind them. It was such a sweet moment to witness!
If you’re considering getting married in Ireland, there are a few things to consider. First, what do you need to make it legal? Is it easier to “officially” get married at home, before traveling to Ireland? Or do you want to make it official while in the country? Some places in Ireland allow you to book a notification appointment online and others require you to book an appointment in-person. Both require at least a 3-month notice. You can find more details about that here: Getting Married in Ireland Details
On the other hand, if you’re planning a vow renewal in Ireland, you don’t have to worry about the legal side of things! You can choose a gorgeous location in Ireland and simply recommit yourselves to one another in whatever way feels best.
Now, let’s think about the fun part: locations for an Ireland elopement. For Amber and John, we chose Slieve League which aligned with our travel plans and has incredible cliffside views along the sea. Regardless of what part of Ireland you travel to, there are so many incredible locations that would be perfect for an elopement.
A few of my dream elopement locations in Ireland are:
After photographing Amber and John’s vow renewal in Ireland, I’m dying to go back to photograph an elopement in Ireland! If you’re considering eloping to Ireland, get in touch and we can plan how to make it happen!
