Photographing a couple at Death Valley has been on my bucket list since I moved to Nevada. So, when Angela told me they wanted sand dunes for their engagement session, I was ready to jump at the chance! I always hesitate asking a couple if they are willing to drive a bit for their session, but they were down. Trust me, if I’m asking you to drive 2-3 hours away, I know it’s going to be worth it.
As soon as we got to the dunes, we were all stunned by how they looked from a distance – untouched and something straight out of a movie. Fair warning, walking in sand dunes is quite the workout, not to mention the heat even in the beginning of May. We grabbed our giant water bottles and trekked out a bit into the dunes, and the results were breathtaking.
After shooting at the Mesquite Sand Dunes, we headed to Artist’s Palette. The colors on the rock formations there are so pretty, and the light was gorgeous during sunset. I’ve heard that sunrise is the time to go if you’d like to see the colors in all of their glory, but that’s a trip for another day – preferably when it’s not 120º.
Check out Angela and Kenneth’s engagement session, can’t wait to shoot their wedding day this September!
